Overview
The intellectual counterpart to Rehlos: highly educated, arrogant, esoteric, metaphysically curious, calm, articulate, and deeply condescending. He values forbidden knowledge and transformation through understanding and sees Imperial religion and the Colleges as institutions that keep humanity intellectually shackled. He is not a generic cackling wizard.
During the earliest proving rites, Craeven cooperates opportunistically with Rehlos. He sees Rehlos as an exceptionally useful martial instrument and privately believes he is shaping the Chosen into the commander he needs. Rehlos’s awareness of that effort prevents the arrangement from becoming simple control. Each man believes the other’s designs remain within his calculations.
Established Characterization
Craeven remains intellectual, metaphysical, learned, and condescending. He eventually becomes the principal Magus and sorcerous adviser of Rehlos’s larger Raven Host field command. He continues to think through manipulation, leverage, and indirect control and may regard himself as the true intellect behind the command. Rehlos expects exactly this behavior and never naively trusts him.
Relationships
- Rehlos - early opportunistic partner and later military commander. Craeven regards him as a powerful martial instrument; the success and limits of Craeven’s influence remain deliberately unresolved.
